Gloucestershire Secondary Schools Sports Equipment Discount

Established in 1947 Grimshaw is a family sports construction and civil engineering business based in Cheltenham.

Proud of our long history in the area and keen to support local schools we are now offering a discount on our sports equipment to Secondary Schools in Gloucestershire.

All you need to do is to contact us to discuss your requirements…

Flood Alleviation

Grimshaws were recently contacted by a previous tennis court customer to help solve flooding problems.

Following changes upstream in water management, a previously dry stream bed had become awash and eroded 5ft deeper. This then threatened the stability of the garden and the existing tennis court.

Grimshaw reconstructed the bed and then used a system of gabions to stabilise the area.

Access was via a neighbours field so work was timed to fall inbetween the harvest of one crop and the sowing of the next.

Warners Budgens

Grimshaw have a longstanding working relationship with Warners Retail with works including various car park modifications, drainage works, installation of security barriers and bollards and snow clearance.

We have just finished work on a series of patching works and re-lining of the car park in Moreton.

‘The resurfacing work carried out by Grimshaws on the customer car park of our Moreton in Marsh supermarket was not only of a very high standard, but also carried out with very minimal disruption to our trade’.  Guy Warner.

Warner’s Budgens are a real success story growing from the first Service Station shop at Quedgely to now indepently owning 5 stores  and winning this years Independent Store of the Year, Community Retailer of the Year and Manager of the Year in the Retail Industry Awards!

Heading for the Heights, again

Back in 2008 our intrepid Purchasing Manager, Adrian Wherrett successfully climbed Kilimanjaro (all 19,347ft of it), his pack was made only slightly heavier by the Grimshaw Banner he took to unfurl at the top!

Well now he is at it again and is just about to head over to Borneo to scale Mount Kinabalu. At a ‘mere’ 13,435ft it is not quite as tall but is apparently pretty steep!

To quote a part of the climbing guide:

“your heart will be racing and you’ll be continuously breathless.  Rests become more frequent, until you might only be walking twenty paces before you have to stop again”

Hmm, not sure it’s what I call fun but Adrian does like a good challenge and we all wish him well.

Grimshaws Bridge Building and Levelling the Land

Ruspidge & Soudley Football Pitch 1

Grimshaw have recently completed the contract to construct a new footbridge for Ruspidge and Soudley Parish Council.  We had already established a good working relationship through our previous construction of a Multi-Use-Games-Area.

We are now also busy working on the levelling of the football pitch on Ruspidge Road.  The existing pitch has a 10m fall which makes a rather interesting challenge for away teams.

New Tennis Court Quotations

Amongst the options included with our latest tennis court quotations, Grimshaw now offer bespoke timber framed summer houses, gazebos and carports etc.

Whilst green oak is the traditional timber for such buildings, these are constructed using pressure treated softwood which looks similar, will last as long, but is not prone to the severe cracking and twisting as happens with green oak.

Our Chairman Peter Grimshaw has just had a rather lovely double bay car-port and a workshop building installed so they come with a personal recommendation!

Grimshaw Consultancy Services

Russell and Peter Grimshaw

Image by Grimshaw Group via Flickr

Whilst we are fundamentally a design-and-build civil engineering contractor, working within a 50 mile radius of Cheltenham, we do offer consultancy services covering site survey, design of roads, car parks, and drainage for a wide range of clients including many local authorities within a 100 mile radius.

For example we are currently working on the survey and redesign of a very large private car park in Berkshire to convert it from a stark macadam rectangle to include feature landscaping, low level lighting, improved drainage and storm water attenuation.

Being beyond our working radius for construction we provide our customers with full contract documents for local contractors in that area to price.

A major advantage it that approaching design from a contractor’s perspective always ensures that the designs are practical and cost effective to construct.

Cheltenham Animal Shelter

Grimshaw just helped out at the Cheltenham Animal Shelter by donating 70 metres of netting and stakes for the Open Day and Novelty Dog Show.

The day was a great success raising over two thousand pounds, but with a current clientele of 50 dogs, 42 cats, 14 rabbits and 2 hamsters every penny counts.

Grimshaw also recently carried out work on their new car parking area which included felling trees and lifting portakabins beneath a 132000 volt electricity supply which required careful liason with Central Networks.

The work of the animal shelter is something we feel strongly about as one of the Grimshaw team is a rescue dog.  Sherman our 12 year old Staffie Cross has been a devoted family pet for the last 11 years but also works full time at the office (as anyone ringing the doorbell knows).

When given the opportunity he enjoys the occassional site inspection!
