ALDERTON SETS A PRIME EXAMPLE

Alderton's war memorial received a well needed spruce-up last month when the Parish Council enlisted the help of specialist external maintenance company 'Prime.'

A division of Cheltenham-based civil engineering company Grimshaw Kinnear, 'Prime' specialises in cleaning without the use of harmful chemicals wherever possible leading to an environmentally friendly clean .

Over the years Alderton's war memorial had become so encrusted in everyday dirt and pollution that even the engraving was almost illegible.

The parish council decided that something had to be done to preserve the memorial, which pays tribute to the local men that died serving their country.

Keith Page of Alderton Parish Council said: "We'd been thinking for some time that the memorial needed a bit of TLC, and with Remembrance Sunday just around the corner we decided to look into having it restored to its former glory.

"Prime has given it the new lease of life it needed, and the residents of Alderton seem really pleased by the transformation," said Keith.

The use of Prime's gentle cleansing processes was especially beneficial to the war memorial, as it greatly reduced the chance of any damage being done during the process.

"We were worried that the memorial might be crumbling away when we first went to look at it, said Brendan Low of ' Prime.'" Luckily on closer inspection we realised that it wasn't falling down, it just needed a really thorough clean."
