Although the origins of the company go back further, Grimshaw Kinnear was incorporated as a limited company in 1947, trading as a sports-ground contractor with offices originally in Cheltenham’s famous Promenade. Still in the same family ownership, and now headed by a third generation of the Grimshaw family, the company are highly experienced Civil Engineers carrying out a wide range of #Engineering Projects including roadworks, car-parks, drainage, flood alleviation sports and play surfacing and maintenance.
The specialist Sports Division has been building tennis courts and sports/play facilities for 70 years and the company is now thought to be the oldest established tennis court constructor in the UK. The Lawn Tennis Association recognised the company’s expertise in tennis court construction when it was one of the six UK court constructors invited to become founder members of the Tennis Court Constructors Federation of Great Britain (TCCF) in 1986. The TCCF has since developed to become SAPCA (Sports and Play Construction Association) which now represents most aspects of sports construction in the UK. Grimshaws is still an active member of SAPCA and is bound by its codes of practice complying or exceeding the requirements of the LTA/SAPCA Guideline Specifications.
Grimshaws deliberately limit the radius of its Civil Engineering and #Construction operations to within approximately a 50 mile radius of Cheltenham to ensure it can maintain a traditional family business service with it’s own experienced workforce. Customer care is at the core of its trading and it has created a very strong repeat business base alongside new customers. Many of the long standing tennis court customers have benefited from court maintenance services for several decades.
In 2007 the company diversified to include the on-line selling of sports equipment at www.grimshawsports.co.uk based on years of experience in Sports Construction. This successful division now sells mostly UK manufactured goods throughout the UK as well as exporting to customers around the world.
